Where to start…..?
In May 2016, we had 93 Austrian’s visit Longhope Gardens (opening on behalf of the National Garden Scheme ngs.org.uk) accompanying TV gardener Karl Ploberger (Austria’s equivalent of Monty Don) as part of a tour of English Gardens. We hosted the Longhope Gardens visit in our garden and provided lunch for our guests using local produce and local caterers from Hart’s Barn Cookery School. Karl bought a camera crew with him and filmed the Longhope Garden visit as part of two programme TV special on English Gardens. After the visit, Karl took his guests to HRH Prince Charles’ garden at Highgrove. Which, I’m sure, was a huge comedown after the Longhope Village visit….
Anyway, the upshot of all this activity is that Longhope Gardens were voted favourite gardens by the Austrian tour (beating even Highgrove!) and two of Longhope’s Open Garden owners, Peter Evans and Sally Gibson, featured in Karl’s Classic English Garden TV programme alongside some of England’s most famous gardens such as Hidcote Manor and Kiftsgate Court.
I received a copy of the DVD this week and a lovely card from Karl thanking us again for the warm welcome we extended to his tour group. I’m feeling quite overwhelmed!
